Meet The Authors: Krystal Sutherland - Guest Post & Giveaway

Hi Everyone,
And welcome to day three of Meet The Authors! I still have equally wonderful authors coming after Krystal today, but I' m absolutely loving the response to the September edition so far! Thanks SO MUCH all of you!

Without further ado, I'd like to introduce to you our Day Three author, Krystal Sutherland, whose debut novel, Our Chemical Hearts COMPLETELY SHATTERED MY HEART last year. Her sophomore novel, A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares just released this week and I am SO EXCITED to see have her on the blog! I hope you love her guest post and enter the giveaway.
The Serpent KingTen YA Books You'd Run and Save First in a Fire

1.      The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

Wing JonesThere are only two books that have made me ugly cry, and this is one of them (the other is also on this list). Jeff Zentner is a cruel, cruel man. Luckily for him, this book is also singularly beautiful and unforgettable, so even though I wanted to throw it across the room at one point, I still love it dearly.

    2.      Wing Jones by Katherine Webber

Jandy Nelson meets Friday Night Lights?! I’m sold! This books has heart, guts, and one kickass main character you’ll quickly fall in love with.
Where Things Come Back
3.      When Birds Fly Back by John Corey Whaley

One of those books that you don’t realise will stay with you while you’re reading it, but it keeps coming back to you in waves long after you reach the final page. How to describe this book? Haunting. Beautiful. Strange.

The Fault in Our Stars    4.      The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

You probably haven’t heard of this small, unknown book called The Fault in Our Stars, written by an author called John Green, who you also probably haven’t heard of. It’s pretty niche and underground, but I liked it anyway.

The Accident Season    5.      The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle

There are a lot of books that I’d describe as “strange” and “enchanting” on this list, but none more so than The Accident Season. I still think about this book all the time, about its family curse and its everyday magic and how thoroughly I was swept up into both by Fowley-Doyle’s lush writing.

The Sidekicks6.      The Sidekicks by Will Kostakis

The second book that made me ugly cry. In public. On a plane. Will Kostakis is also a cruel, cruel man, but his book is oh so wonderful.
Asking For It
    7.      Asking for It by Louise O’Neill

Bone GapShould be required reading for every human. It’s an all too familiar story about rape, and the appalling aftershocks that tear through victims’ lives following an attack. Warning: your blood will boil.

    8.     Bone Gap by Laura Ruby

I’m beginning to see that I like strange, spellbinding books quite a lot, because here’s another one that you won’t be able to get out of your head. Creepy corn fields and gaps in reality populate this tale of myth, magic, and danger in small town America.
The Graces (The Graces, #1)
    9.      The Graces by Laure Eve

If you enjoyed Charmed, Practical Magic or The Craft, you will love The Graces. Laure Eve has bought old school ‘90s witchcraft back in a big way.

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)      10.  The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I would save anything Maggie Stiefvater writes, but there’s a special place in my heart for Blue and Gansey, and their tale filled with psychics, spirits and a cursed romance. Be still my beating heart!

Krystal Sutherland Hello. It's me.
I am Krystal Sutherland, writer of books. Or, more specifically, I am the writer of two books, Our Chemical Hearts, which was published in October 2016, and A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares, which will be released in September 2017.
I was born and raised in Townsville, in the far north of Australia, an inhospitable place filled with crocodiles and jellyfish. Since moving to Sydney in 2011, I've also lived in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, (though I speak neither Dutch nor Cantonese), and Palo Alto in California.

Blurb Description: Ever since Esther Solar's grandfather was cursed by Death, everyone in her family has been doomed to suffer one great fear in their lifetime. Esther's father is agoraphobic and hasn't left the basement in six years, her twin brother can t be in the dark without a light on, and her mother is terrified of bad luck.
The Solars are consumed by their fears and, according to the legend of the curse, destined to die from them.
Esther doesn't know what her great fear is yet (nor does she want to), a feat achieved by avoiding pretty much everything. Elevators, small spaces, and crowds are all off-limits. So are haircuts, spiders, dolls, mirrors and three dozen other phobias she keeps a record of in her semi-definitive list of worst nightmares.
Then Esther is pickpocketed by Jonah Smallwood, an old elementary school classmate. Along with her phone, money and a fruit roll-up she d been saving, Jonah also steals her list of fears. Despite the theft, Esther and Jonah become friends, and he sets a challenge for them: in an effort to break the curse that has crippled her family, they will meet every Sunday of senior year to work their way through the list, facing one terrifying fear at a time, including one that Esther hadn't counted on: love
